Confessions of a CrossFit Coach.

This post is for all my friends who are beasts-of-burden. You know who you are. You’re fit, you’ve been exercising your heart out for YEARS and it shows- you’re strong, SO STRONG, and you’re even pretty fast!

BUT…

You can’t get your nutrition to align with your hard work. You’re “good” sometimes, you’re “bad” sometimes, but most of the time you’re —————————-meh, with a side of sugar. And it’s hard! Life is fast paced, your kids are picky, you aren’t creative enough to make healthy food fit into your budget, you had a baby, or in some other way your responsibilities (and stress) have increased. And that has resulted in excess body-fat.

My story is kinda like that, and you know what— I’m glad. My life is the best. I’ve always been fed, I’ve always been strong, and I have so many friends that I could find a reason to celebrate with cake, Misty Cookies, pizza, burgers and beer at least once per week. Thank you, Jesus.

AND… Metabolic disease is 50% higher in those with visceral fat over 10, which correlates with Body Fat Percentage above optimal range (Men 10-20% and Women 18-28%). Shoot, dang. My VF is 14.

In the wake of family and friends’ emergency hospitalizations, I’m prompted to dial in my fitness even further. My family history tells me I’m supposed have a heart attack or be on heart meds before age 60, so I’m fixin’ to change the story. For me, getting regular InBody scans and having a group of 3 other ladies to hold me accountable is doing the trick. In one month I’ve gained over a pound of muscle, lost 8lbs of body fat, and decreased my %BodyFat by 4%, resulting in loss of visceral fat as well. LET’S GOOOOO! The road is still long, but I’m getting there.

I have two invitations for you.

  1. Feel free to hold me accountable. I’m the first to say I can’t do it on my own - that’s why I do CrossFit ;)

  2. If you can relate to me - even if you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum (because frailty is a killer also), reach out. I’ll 100% steer you toward the InBody membership, but I’m also just happy to answer the question, “What should I have for dinner?”, or similar inquiries.

Devin and I are proud to be people who have walked-the-walk, and in some cases are still crawling-the-walk. We hope our experiences can plow the way for you to crawl, walk, and eventually plow the way for someone else as well! Let’s finish 2024 strong!
