I am wearing 14 extra pounds from the holiday weekend. We worked out on Saturday, which felt really good, but I hopped on my in-laws scale and had a moment of panic when I saw the 14lb damage. I ate and drank a lot, but not 49,000 calories extra! I had to discuss with myself that logic and then felt better about enjoying the holiday.

You might have had a similar experience followed by a family member begging you to take home leftovers, “Take some _______, or it will go to waste.”  Really? We’re living in a chapter from The Grapes of Wrath? Are we rationing gas for the war effort? There’s probably just as many starving kids in America as in China. And even so, I wouldn’t be trying to solve that problem with leftover cheese cake! Last time I checked it’s 2017 and chips and cookies are the cheapest food you can buy. It’s not wasteful for you to throw away leftovers. You’ll feel liberated!

I really don’t think we should live in seasons of on-track and off-track, but it only takes one healthy meal to reset and get back to living how you know you should. So even though you had a really tasty (read gluttonous, guilty and bloated) holiday, don’t think that you need to starve or do a cleanse or nutrition challenge to get back into the swing of things. Simply eat a well portioned meal of Whole Foods and get back on your normal training schedule.

Wednesday’s workout is just what the doctor ordered. Moving some significant weight will feel refreshing, and you can try out those fancy shoes you got for Christmas!
